Starting in 1755, the Acadians were deported from Acadia and sent to the British colonies from Massachusetts to Georgia, to prisons in England and some, directly to France.

By 1785, many of these deported Acadians found their way to Louisiana and gave rise to the Cajun population, estimated at over 500,000.
